Court-Approved Protocol Limits the Benefit for Family Members Attending HCV Medical Appointments
A new protocol approved by the Courts in September 2024 limits the type and number of medical appointments that qualify for the benefit for family members attending medical appointments with the HCV infected person.
Where the HCV infected person is disease level 1 to 4, the benefit will now be payable only for in-person appointments for advice or treatment in respect of the HCV infection with the treating physician or nurse practitioner providing the primary care in respect of the infection (including lab and imaging appointments ordered by the primary treating physician/nurse practitioner to follow the infection) up to a fixed number of visits per year.
Where the HCV infected person is disease level 5 or 6, the benefit will also be payable for in-person appointments for advice or treatment in respect of the listed conditions at disease level 5 or 61 that are caused by the HCV infection with the treating physician or nurse practitioner who is providing the primary care in respect of the listed condition.
The benefit is not payable for appointments with physiotherapists, osteopaths, psychiatrists, psychologists, chiropractors, massage therapists or other disciplines for treatment or services related to the HCV infection.
Review the protocol here for more details.
